Dental crowns or “caps” are a standard offering at dentists’ offices in Anderson Mill, Northwest Austin, TX, the greater Austin area, and beyond. But not all dental practices are equipped to provide same-day dental crowns.
Fortunately, we at Walden Dental have invested in a range of cutting-edge technologies to support our ability to provide one-visit dentistry. Overall, such investments support our mission to deliver convenient, high-quality, safe, gentle, and hassle-free dentistry.
Restorations are generally used to rebuild or replace damaged, deteriorated, or lost tooth structure. As a dental restoration, dental crowns are made from enamel-like materials to fit over the remaining healthy natural tooth structure. In doing so, the underlying damage or condition is resolved. The structural integrity and health of the tooth is also preserved. Dental extractions, or the removal of teeth, are avoided.
The typical process of getting a crown requires at least two visits to the dentist’s office. One involved preparing the tooth and crown, and the second visit involved fixing the permanent crown to the existing tooth structure. Traditionally, it could take three to four weeks for offsite dental labs to fabricate the crown. More visits (and time) would be required for those patients whose crowns did not fit or look right the first time.
Fortunately, times (and technologies) have changed! Our dentist, Dr. David Frank, can fabricate in-office dental crowns and other restorations in just 15 to 20 minutes. He uses Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) techniques to precisely and quickly plan, design, make, and secure the crown. A new crown can be re-made in no time.
Moreover, advanced CEREC software and 3-D digital imaging minimize dental material impression error and distoration associated with conventional crown design and fabrication. Patients also appreciate that the teeth may be scanned non-invasively, eliminating gooey impressions that may cause feelings of claustrophobia or intense gag reflex. So, no messy or uncomfortable dental appointments that require traditional molds or impressions used.
From start to finish, the entire process of getting a crown can be completed in one 60-minute visit! No need to travel to and from our office again. No more fragile, temporary crowns worn while you wait for an outside lab to make the permanent crown. By bringing these capabilities “in-house,” we also have considerable “quality control.”
Our valued patients have peace of mind that their crowns will last long. We only use biocompatible, metal-free ceramic materials that are bio-inert and do not present risks of adverse allergic reactions associated with metal sensitivities. High-performance ceramic materials enhance our dental crown lifelike properties. So, our crowns look like natural tooth enamel and blend in beautifully with the rest of the smile.
When in our highly capable hands, these crowns are as strong and durable as they are pleasing to the eye! They also “wear” really well (no unsightly dark lines, which can arise over time with “aging” crowns made from metals).
